Who is Ronny?
Thursday, 26 November 2009To understand who Ronny is you need to know his father, Rocky the Ram. Rocky is the face of Queensland representative teams. Rocky was introduced to baseball in Queensland in 1981 when he was taking his daily walk past Windsor Royals Baseball Club and witnessed something amazing. It was the Queensland Claxton Shield team practising. He became attracted to the sport and admired the Queensland team, which lead to him participating in practice. After a month of blood, sweat and tears throughout every practice session he was then awarded a spot on the team as the 10th player. Since his admittance into the program he was a direct menace to the opposing teams that dared to challenge the QLD Rams.
Rocky was easily identified wearing his QLD uniform with pride and his oversized Rams head. He was forever on top of the dugouts and pumping up the noisy crowd at Holloway Field with the attempt to put fear into the visiting teams. Rocky played and was mentored by the best players Queensland and Australia had to offer. Names like Albury, Nilsson, Thomson, Young, Dutton, Tyler and Meagher all had a major influence in Rocky's career.
Years have past and it is now Ronny's time to shine. He has been mentored by the best mascot in Australia, his father. Ronny is in the early stages of his career and you can see him this year at the Claxton Shield home series. You will find him at every home game running a muck with the kids through out each game. You can also have your chance to win free Domino's pizza buy chasing him across the field, challenge him to a race around the base paths, throw water balloons and receive free t-shirts that he throws into the crowd. All this happens between most innings of each game. So, if you are out at the ball park and come across Ronny don't be afraid to say hi and give him a high five. Also, bring your camera and take a photo with him. He will never be camera shy.
GO RAMS!!
